From our pastor’s heart:
During my devotions this morning, I read the passage from the Gospel of
Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your
light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father
in heaven.” The prayer of my
heart is that the people I come in contact with each and every day will see
Christ’s light in my life as well as in our ministry when they walk through our
doors or when they see us participating in our community.
Since the beginning of New
Hope Lakota’s ministry 8 years ago, we have desired to be a light on the hill
for our community and our reservation.
As our light shines, many have approached us to come to their communities
as well to share the gospel of Christ and the hope that comes from Him and Him
alone. I believe with all of my
heart that His grace is able to cross the barriers of culture, tradition and
past hurts and move in the lives of His children the Lakota people without
anyone having to lose the very essence of who they are.
It is exciting as the Lord is teaching us to incorporate culture without
watering down the Gospel message or compromising the holy life that Christ has
called us to live.
We have been learning the Lakota language and each Sunday open our
service with the Lord’s Prayer in Lakota.
As we learn new songs in Lakota, we are incorporating them into our
Worship services. It is exciting to
see the connection that is made when one’s native tongue is spoken.
A couple of Sundays ago, as I was lighting the Christ candle, my husband
Charles played “Amazing Grace” on his Native American flute.
What a powerful moving of the Holy Spirit was felt during that time!
We continue to pray for the Holy Spirit’s leading and empowering on our
ministry and on this pastor that lives may be transformed and that His light
might shine in all of our brothers and sisters, and that may result in praise of
our heavenly Father.
